We translated the initial idea and environmental goals of the Re:Box delivery system into a clear and actionable service and product vision. To build a solid foundation, we conducted an in-depth analysis of the entire delivery process. Through a detailed journey blueprint, we structured the key phases of the circular system, ensuring a holistic understanding of operations and stakeholder interactions. By considering all internal and external user groups—from procurement and logistics teams to fulfillment and shipping personnel—we developed a system that maximizes usability, operational efficiency, and resource conservation.
Circular Box
A robust, functional, and intuitively usable product design is essential for the success of any circular system. Based on the service blueprint, we defined all critical design requirements for Re:Box. Each component was engineered to withstand the rigors of the shipping process and enable multiple reuse cycles. To ensure durability and efficiency, we conducted practical tests and qualitative user acceptance analyses. Re:Box was designed for seamless use at every stage—from shipping and handling to recipient interaction and secure return. Clear branding and an intuitive information system enhance recognition and guide users effectively through the circular process, simplifying returns and promoting sustainable use.
Stakeholder Engagement
A circular system thrives on high return rates, making clear communication and user engagement crucial. We developed targeted communication strategies and customized informational materials for every stakeholder group. The introduction of Re:Box also enabled more flexible order processing—a key advantage for customers. The system was seamlessly integrated into the B2B online shop, making ordering more intuitive and transparent. We equipped stakeholders with onboarding materials and communicated benefits early through email campaigns and a dedicated landing page with FAQs. Clear instructions ensured smooth handling throughout the shipping and return process. To facilitate reliable returns, we provided easy-to-follow return guidelines—visible at all key touchpoints, including packaging, shipping communications, and fulfillment operations. A consistent design across all channels reinforced brand recognition, from packaging to digital interfaces.
Real Impact
The core objective of Re:Box was to achieve measurable environmental impact. To quantify the ecological benefits, we conducted a comprehensive Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Our end-to-end service blueprint provided a holistic view of the concept’s key elements, enabling us to identify critical factors that maximize environmental performance. The analysis established clear system boundaries for evaluating sustainability impact. The results demonstrated significant environmental advantages over single-use packaging. By maintaining a closed-loop system where each box completes at least 100 cycles, we achieved remarkable sustainability improvements:
